Blink Season 2 Episode 2 with Shelly Smith

It’s literally been almost a year since we’ve posted about a contestant on our television show titled Blink.

Usually Brie would write this post, but it gives me amazing joy to talk about Shelly Smith from South Carolina from my perspective.

Shelly is one amazing, passionate and loving person who knows karate and will smile and kick you in the knees at the same time.

I’m joking, but serious.

As a person that helps in her community, her friends and her family Shelly was a natural fit for the Fedora team.

She’s bubbly and is always there to assit.

I’d like to welcome Mrs. Smith to the FO team and in the comments you can too.

Listen to her brief welcome interview with Brie and stay tuned for season 3.

It’s titled Outliers and it’s on the Delivering Access Network.

More than one way to skin a virtual cat… Denise gets help

Denise wrote in on this post http://www.fedoraoutlier.com/ive-told-you-what-it-is-how-it-works-now-heres-how-to-get-it/

wanting help with creating a new product for those in wheel chairs that are blind.

Michael writes in and says…

Vashaun, Mike Harrell here with Georgia Industries for the Blind. I read Denise’s email about a dog harness for people who are blind and in wheel chairs. The GIB is always looking for new products, especially in the sewing line. We do a lot of sewing. Also, we have an experienced industrial engineers who have spend a lifetime in the textile/sewing business. Please let her know we can work with her on her idea. You can forward this email to her or send me her contact info.

People don’t believe it unless they have proof, so I shot a video, of course.

Here it is…

I’ve told you what it is, how it works… Now here’s how to get it!

Denise writes in and says…

Dear Vashan,

I like your message. But, how does someone like me, who knows what
skills she has translate those skills into money/ For example, I have
been an advocate for adults with disabilities for almost fourty years.
I know what needs to be done to advance the disability cause. But no
one pays advocates. WE MAKE GOOD VOLUNTEERS. But being a volunteer
doesn’t pay the bills, yet alone paying for advocacy related expences.
I have been also working on a wheel chair design and harness that
would allow a dog to guide and pull a blind person who relies on a
wheel chair for mobility purposes. I’ve been told by guide dog schools
that it cannot be done. But I know that it can be done; but not with
traditional equipment. Here again, there is no money for research and
development. . So, this brings me back to my original question, how
does someone like me translate my skills into employment?

I answer her question on this video…

{TGIW} Are you confusing skills, passion and purpose?

Thank GOD it’s Wednesday! Right?

Hey how are those new skills working out for you? Are they moving you towards your goals?

Do you have goals? What about your passion?

Same questions…

Purpose?

Most people have skills, others have passion and skills but most people don’t know how they take all three things and bring them to life.

This video breaks them down into small bite size chunks and make skills, passion and purpose easy to understand.

I am a heavy user of the built-in print to Pdf feature on the Mac. I had to find a way to have the same functionality on iOS…And using the combination of the VoiceOver rotor and Workflow, I have my solution.

I walk you through the process in this video, so check it out, and let me know what you think.
