How To Install The iOS 7 Jailbreak

Posted in iOS

Have you ever thought about jailbreaking your iOS device? If so, are you worried that your device will somehow be harmed during the process? In this post I will show you just how easy it is now to perform the jailbreak of your iPhone,, iPad, or iPod Touch, and it will only take you about 10 minutes of your time to do. So sit back and lets get ready to learn how you can join in the fun!

Before I get into the nitty gritty of actually jailbreaking your device I need to put in this little disclaimer .

When it comes to jailbreaking you do it at your own risks. Although it is very safe to do there are occasions when something could go wrong while the jailbreak is being done that could brick your device. In my experience with my own iOS devices I have never encountered a problem that I could not recover from, but having said this I just want to make it clear that even though it is very unlikely that you will harm your device the possibility is still there, and when you are dealing with technology sometimes you just never know.

Having said all this you might be wondering what are the advantages of using a jailbroken iPhone or iPad? By performing a jailbreak on your device you will take away the restrictions that Apple puts on their iOS hardware. Without going into too many details about this the biggest reason why one might want a jailbroken device is so that they can use any app store that they want. The most popular of these third party stores is Cydia. It is important for me to note that although Cydia is called a third party app store or repository what you will really find here are some really great themes and tweaks for your iOS device. These tweaks for the most part are not apps in the normal meaning of the word, but they are extremely useful if what you want is a device that you can use in the way that you want to use it.

First you will need to go to the – official website of the evasi0n7 – iOS 7.x Jailbreak so that you can download the latest version. There is one for both Windows and Mac computers there, so depending on which platform you are on make the appropriate choice and then download that file.

Before going into the process for actually jailbreaking your device make sure that you back up all of your data and settings either with iTunes or by using iCloud. This is just a precaution but trust me, if something should go wrong during the process you will be glad that you backed it up before trying this.

Okay, now that you have backed up your device and also downloaded the file it is time to go through the steps for putting the jailbreak on your device.

  1. Close iTunes if it is still opened.
  2. Make sure that your iOS device is still plugged into your computer.
  3. Now locate the file that you downloaded and open it.
  4. Once the file is opened just locate the ‘jailbreak’ button and activate it

At this point the process of jailbreaking will begin. It is very important that you be very patient with this. If you get impatient and interrupt this process you could brick your device. When I first attempted to jailbreak by iPhone I was too impatient and I did interrupt this process before it was done and I did brick my iPhone, but fortunately in my case I was able to get my phone back up and running by forcing it into recovery mode and reinstalling iOS 7.

Here is how you can do this if you should happen to brick your device.

  1. Hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time while making sure to keep your device plugged into your computer.
  2. After about 30 seconds or so your screen reader on your computer should announce that iTunes has detected an iOS device in recovery mode. You will need to restore this device before iTunes can work with it.
  3. Next just navigate your iTunes window like you would normally do and when you get to the restore button activate it.
  4. Now iOS 7 will be reinstalled on your device and when it is done your device will be good as new.

The entire process of jailbreaking your device should take about 10 to 15 minutes. During this process your device will restart 3 times. This is a very important thing to know because when I was doing this on my iPhone I got impatient and after the second restart I thought that it was finished and that is when I bricked my phone. So make sure that you wait until you hear your device restart for the third time.

Lets get back to the jailbreak process. The very talented folks that have put the iOS 7 jailbreak together have really done a fabulous job of making it as simple a process as possible. Even those of us that are not very technical can very easily jailbreak their device.

The only time during the entire process of jailbreaking your iOS device in which you will need to do anything is after you hear your device restart for the first time. At this point you need to unlock it and then locate the icon for the jailbreak. It is easy to find this icon because it has a strange name that VoiceOver does not really know how to pronounce . Once you locate it just double tap it and the process will continue.

At his point it is probably a good idea to just set your device down a go and stretch your legs or something so that you won’t be tempted to interrupt the jailbreak while it is being done.
If you decided to not take my advice in the previous sentence and you are anxiously waiting for your jailbreak to finish then I will go on and let you know how you can tell when it is done.

Once you have heard the device restart for the third time your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch is now a jailbroken device and you can now unplug it from your computer and begin to use it again.

Unlock your device and then locate the icon for Cydia. This is the third party app store that I mentioned earlier. Double tap on it to open it and get ready to begin to make your i device do things that you never would have thought possible!

In my next post on this subject I will talk about how to use Cydia and I will also show you a couple of my favorite jailbreak tweaks.
